Description

One square too far and the next move checkmates. In my bachelor project “Realms of Play: The Gambit of Moves & Constraints”, the chessboard is expanded into a tactile play space. On modular interaction surfaces that artistically abstract the chessboard, 3D-printed elements can be felt, plugged, and moved. Their shapes echo sculptural playground design: organic topographies, hills, and terrain forms meet the clear order of the chessboard and the figurative presence of the chess pieces. With every move, the playing field changes: new paths are created, other movements are blocked. The project examines how rules and constraints shape playful behavior and how forward thinking becomes physically tangible. In this way, a spatial-sculptural playground landscape is created in which play becomes visible through risk, orientation, and decision-making.
