Description

This master’s thesis examines mirror phenomena from an aesthetic, cultural-theoretical, and design perspective. The mirror is understood not only as an optical object, but as a medium that mediates between reality and imagination. The focus is on the tension between perception and imagination, between the visible and the symbolic. Mirror images do not appear as neutral reflections, but as projection surfaces for subjective interpretations, shaped by memory, experience, and expectation. The work relies theoretically on cultural and art-historical, philosophical, and psychological approaches. In the design part, the findings are transferred into the design of a floor lamp. Through reflective and transparent elements, visual intermediate states are created that dissolve perception patterns and enable new spatial experiences. The goal is to create a space of possibility in which perception, space, and imagination can be experienced anew.
