This quote served as the starting point for an object that deliberately engages with transience and views temporality as a creative potential. It is based on a bio-based material made from casein, inspired by the historical galalith. As part of the material development process, its suitability for 3D printing was also investigated. The material is fully compostable and free from harmful additives. Ash serves as a filler and lends the work both material and symbolic significance. Drawing on the Baroque concept of vanitas, the object explores the themes of mortality, memory and consumption. The ashes of the deceased become part of the object itself, transforming it into a contemporary memento mori. Designed as a keepsake for the bereaved, it can be buried in one’s own garden and acts as a poetic bridge between life and death.
