Description

ZERO is one of the most significant art movements of the 20th century. It is based on the Düsseldorf artist group consisting of Otto Piene, Heinz Mack and Günther Uecker, which existed from 1957 to 1966.

The art-historical significance of ZERO is universally recognized and comprehensively researched. The rich graphic and design work of ZERO, however, has never been systematically investigated.

»ZERO Design« is the first design-scientific analysis of the ZERO foundation archives. Using a specially developed method for quantifying the characteristics of design works, it analyzes how the (typo)graphic works of the movement form the basis of successful art marketing.

The insights gained inspired the design of HUIS SANS, a new font family with 36 weights, which adopts characteristics of ZERO Design and in this way typographically retraces the history of design development during the ZERO era.
