Description

Textile overproduction and the resulting environmental damage are increasingly coming into focus. Pre-consumer waste is commonplace in industrial weaving. Short yardages or colour deviations lead to leftover yarns that are discarded. Even in smaller factories, up to 400 kg of material is disposed of every month.
Design can create incentives to improve the situation. The project You may also like puts leftover yarn at the centre of the design and enables its reuse. By knotting or twisting the leftovers, the lengths can be extended as needed to make them industrially relevant again.
The result is a functional yarn that reveals the potential of these limited remnants: the length of the colour leftovers determines the fabric pattern, turning the yarn itself into the actual designer. Colour gradients give the fabric its own aesthetic. The developed method not only enables reuse but also gives the waste its unique character.
