Description
The starting point is the growing challenge of textile waste and the question of how existing resources can be reused in a meaningful way. Through my work as head of the textile workshop affiliated with second-hand stores, I experience large quantities of old clothing every day that cannot be fed into local recycling. Instead of breaking textiles down into fibers again, I use their existing structure and developed a resilient upholstery material from it.
The resulting recycled material is based on coarsely shredded old clothing which, inspired by stitch-bonded blankets, is sewn with a multi-needle machine into a dense, stable composite. This creates a robust material with its own aesthetic quality for furniture upholstery.
The project sees itself as a contribution to the circular economy: it combines ecological responsibility, industrial connectivity, and design quality, and makes textile waste materials visible and usable.
