UNSeen: Outlining Antifeminist Structures in the United Nations

Antifeminism is growing worldwide, but often remains invisible at the level of global governance. The master student project provides information about these structures in the UN based on the research of Jelena Cupać, Ph.D. (WZB). The webzine covers milestones of feminist advocacy, the role of NGOs, as well as antifeminist actors and strategies. Since conflicts between pro- and anti-rights actors are often fought as struggles over the meaning of language and formulations, the design focuses on characters. Inspired by zine culture, the project uses the aesthetics of the typewriter. As a symbol of bureaucracy and female labor, it is reinterpreted here as a tool for feminist empowerment. ASCII code continues this logic as digital typewriter art. The character grids become a symbol of antifeminist structures and are broken up by hover interactions. In this way, providing information becomes a feminist intervention.
