Description

“Form follows function – and function follows need.” But this is often understood as something external. Sustainable design asks: Can inner needs not also be a starting point? Umbra is a textile answer to emotional needs and a conscious engagement with material and origin. The 5 cm thick virgin wool blanket (210 × 180 cm) contains a flexible wire structure and can be shaped into an armchair or a seating surface, for moments of being alone or being together with others. It offers individual security and familiar shapes, while at the same time enabling social encounter.

In the experimental design process, it is explored how raw wool can be rethought as a sustainable material. Tradition and contemporary design combine to form functional-emotional objects. The use of raw wool prevents waste and preserves craftsmanship and wool processing from being forgotten.
