Climate change, global inequalities, and social upheavals demand political measures and new forms of communication. How people think about future challenges depends heavily on how this future is communicated. Today, science communication faces the challenge of conveying facts credibly and making complex systems and long-term developments understandable. Classic press releases or popular science articles often reach their limits here. New formats are needed that make the future seem less unpredictable. The focus is on the question of how designers, together with scientists, can develop new communication formats in order to promote an active dialogue about possible futures. fishtank is an event prototype that brings together designers and scientists from all disciplines and uses speculation as a means of communication.
