Description

denorm [ ] investigates the question of what social value the standardization of speech still has today – and to what extent it can actually map linguistic reality. The central thesis: A supposedly correct or standardized form of speech does not set a real benchmark. Ways of speaking are individual, dynamic, and diverse.

We translate linguistic peculiarities – whether accent, dialect, or rhythm – and make them tangible with other senses. In an immersive, interactive exhibition, a data-driven system transfers phonetic properties directly into generative animation. The result is meaning-oriented design that does not strive for aesthetic pleasingness.

The focus is on the appeal to detach speech from evaluations such as right or wrong. The visualization creates a reconnection beyond learned categories – and space for personal, reflected engagement with one’s own way of speaking.
