Description

SCHTÛBAT addresses the tradition of the regulars’ table (“Stammtisch”): a culture closely linked to the inn. For generations, inns were places for community, exchange and politics, which are increasingly disappearing, and with them the regulars’ table as a social meeting place. The work approaches the world of the inn historically and interdisciplinarily, examining its cultural and social significance. SCHTÛBAT includes objects from the inn: a pendant light, coasters, a bench, a table, a stool and a clock that makes you forget time. The bench, table and stool can be flexibly combined and pick up on the idea of sitting together. With this, Rechfelden conveys his vision of the “Dazuhock-Botschaft” (sit-down message): the objects create space for everyone and make it possible to participate at any time. The implementation combines traditional, artisanal and modern manufacturing methods. SCHTÛBAT offers an analog alternative to the digital filter bubble.
