Description

Urban violence is a global reality, also here in Europe. How resiliently, supportively and with civic courage a society reacts to it is often decided in the first few seconds before the emergency services are on site. PURE takes this responsibility as a starting point and asks how design can empower people to act in an emergency.

From this question, a system emerged that rethinks medical aids and intuitive guidelines together. A newly designed pressure bandage and a newly conceived packaging guide untrained first responders safely through a situation in which stress, fear and a lack of routine would otherwise lead to flight, overwhelm and paralysis.

From expert interviews with rescue workers, emergency doctors and police, as well as iterative user tests with laypersons, a design grew that lowers the inhibition threshold to act and understands civic courage as a designable quality.
