Description

As a working student in the field of sustainability at the PINTER joinery, I was responsible for the disposal of cork offcuts. The residual material from series production was previously recycled externally. The work investigates how these pieces can be reused in their form as panel material instead of being granulated – while remaining recyclable.

The result is a series of four stools and a modular partition wall. The existing contours, edges, and formats of the leftover pieces are deliberately integrated into the design. By doubling up, gluing, milling, and sanding, the offcuts are brought to stable material thicknesses.

The aim is to make the value of a natural raw material usable for longer by recognizing the qualities of the leftover pieces and developing them further through design. The furnishing elements show how industrial waste can receive a new use, its own design language, and a tactilely tangible quality.
