As part of my bachelor’s thesis, Participatory Concepts for Music Lesson Design, a modular musical instrument system was created that includes over 50 component types from which various electroacoustic musical instruments can be built. It was developed for interdisciplinary teaching between music and STEM subjects, specifically physics and computer science curriculum content. Based on curriculum content for grades 8 to 10 in the aforementioned subjects, the instruments are manufactured by students under the guidance of teachers and then used to make music. Accompanying the physical product design, I designed an extensive card system with component information, construction manuals, and circuit diagrams for the more than 50 modules, as well as an exemplary curriculum that provides a structured overview of working with the system. Independent of the lessons, the modules can also be used to design musical instruments according to one’s own ideas.
