Description

For a long time, ornament was seen as the opposite of industrial manufacturing – as superfluous, irrational, and non-standardisable. But this separation is a dogma. Ornament is more than decoration: it structures, organises, references, supports. This work questions the idea of ornament in an industrial context and seeks a design synthesis: how can ornament become not an applied feature, but an integral part of mass production?
The standardised aluminium profile serves here as a symbol of functional reduction. Through targeted intervention, it is manipulated to reveal a second order: an ornamental structure that does not work against the material but is developed from its industrial logic. This results in three pieces of furniture: a stool, a table and a lamp with ornament. They explore how ornament functions in simple everyday objects.
