Description

The aim of the thesis was to design a redesign of the Moka pot that meets contemporary demands for sustainability while incorporating the iconic status and socio-cultural anchoring of the Moka Express by Bialetti. The analysis of the existing market and research into possible materials and technologies also form a focus of the work.

The resulting design remains true to the simple functional principle of the Moka Express and expands it with details. While the closure is intended to improve the application aesthetics, a tab on the gasket and a spring on the funnel simplify cleaning. In addition, a reduction system enables the preparation of different amounts of coffee. The choice of materials enables an independent product cycle and falls on stainless steel, silicone rubber and a residual material composite made of coffee grounds and wood shavings. This creates a pot that is designed for longevity, durability and repairability.
