In water rescue, volunteer emergency forces take on responsibility under extreme conditions in which seconds decide between life and death. The recovery of people into a rescue boat is one of the most critical operational situations: waves, cold, time pressure, and lack of space make it a strength-intensive and unstable process. MORA (Marine Overboard Rescue Assistant) combines lifting support, a modified spineboard, and a belt system into an interlocking rescue system with an optimized interaction concept. The design innovation lies in the guided movement to reduce force – especially in the event of personnel shortages as well as for women and younger emergency forces. The intuitive design approach minimizes decisions under stress and supports fast, gross motor action sequences. Developed together with water rescuers and tested in practice, MORA increases the safety of the emergency forces, accelerates the rescue chain, and helps save lives.
