Description

District project in Hamburg Rothenburgsort. Participative development of a place for the residents in Rothenburgsort. Residents in cities, in the countryside have the right to a place to exchange ideas and to organise themselves.

What is the Topic?

Rapid urban changes that tend to have a negative impact on old neighbourhoods. Urban development at eye level is virtually the product. The closure of the original district centre made it necessary to find a new location. We found this place and generated it.

Why does it look like this?

Vacant buildings in large cities are not exactly like sand at the seaside. This former toilet house was due to its location and size a suitable object to realize a part of our project.

What is special?

An interdisciplinary working group of neighbours, artists and architects, as well as representatives of the HafenCity University (HCU) and the Hochschule für bildende Künste (HfbK) are submitting the following offer for a collaborative conversion of the former Bundesmonopolverwaltung für Branntwein (BfB) (Federal Monopoly Administration for Spirits) in the Hamburg district Rothenburgsort. Through the use of existing structures, the process becomes trend-setting for a public welfare-oriented urban development, the aim of which is not privatisation, but the common. A cultural one, a social and practical place, which can be used by and for people from the district and the city: The micropole and monopoly for all - in the east of Hamburg.

What is new?

In times of increasingly dense cities, places of common, places of exchange and everyday neighbourhoods are important. Such a place can become a micropole and a monopoly! A place experienced and lived. To a place of the differences that must exist in order to generate something new. A place of negotiation, surprise and chance.
