Description
Mehrgenerationenhaus+ reinterprets the outbuilding of a historic manor house and translates its idea of intergenerational living into contemporary architecture. An atrium as a vertical marketplace forms the heart of the house and connects the daycare center, assisted living, and the neighborhood. This independent steel structure forms the new internal order of the house and supports flexible retreat, reading & gallery modules, which enable a finely nuanced relationship between the public and private spheres. They promote exchange, interaction, and individual appropriation. Within the assisted living and daycare center, cluster-like neighborhoods with their own community zones are created, which are connected to one another through the atrium. Supplemented by multi-purpose rooms for workshops and events, a place is created that promotes independence, encounters, and intergenerational living, and counteracts loneliness.
