Description

As a metalworker, I am used to a functional, defined handling of steel that leaves little room for reflection. However, I am fascinated by the simultaneity of states, properties and appearances inherent in the material. Through the effects of heat, clouds of color emerge on its surface, pointing to invisible forces and processes. The sandblasted surface seems to dissolve into the atmosphere, the separation between material and environment begins to blur.

The suspended objects elude a clear classification and, the industrial profiles appear simultaneously massive and delicate. Instigated by Joseph Vogl’s “Meteor” and Jane Bennett’s “Vibrant Matter”, I understand material not as a passive substance, but as something powerful that is involved in the creation of reality. I am interested in how familiar attributions of hardness and functionality dissolve, creating space for delicacy and ambiguity.
