Description
“Medea, differently” is a graphic novel that deals with the tragedy “Medea” from Greek antiquity. The work from 331 BC is about universal themes that are still relevant today: human abysses, intrigue, love, revenge, loss.
With the approach of bringing a theater production to paper, the goal is to unite the two art forms of performance and illustration. The one of a fleeting nature, the other static, the two are fundamentally different. However, commonalities can also be found: unpredictable moments resulting from improvisation. Dramatically lit scenes, the feeling of being close to the characters on stage.
Both the critical questioning and adaptation of the source text, as well as the search for their own version of the story with an alternative ending, were a central part of the work. The illustrations are designed analogously in black ink, with a vibrant red serving as an accent color.
