Description
The project was created as part of the master’s thesis “Authorship and Control of Visual Codes in AI-Based Fashion Image Design”. It examines how the role of the designer changes when classic photo production is replaced by an AI-supported process.
The submitted project “Code: Haar” deals with hair as a visual code. Hair belongs to the body, but can simultaneously detach itself from it and become an independent object. Exactly this ambivalence forms the starting point of the project.
While hair in fashion is mostly read as a hairstyle or a sign of beauty, here it is reinterpreted as a material, object, and accessory. In the work process, it became apparent that AI understands hair almost automatically as a hairstyle. The design challenge consisted of breaking through these predefined associations and developing other interpretations.
The result is a series of fashion editorials between body, object, and fashion.
