Description
The project Knitwave investigates how self-folding, three-dimensional textiles can be created from two-dimensional knitted surfaces. The three-dimensionality of the knitwear is created solely by the tension differences between the two basic stitches, right and left. Depending on the arrangement of the stitches, wave-like folds are created in the knitwear, which vary in height and result in a cushioning textile. The aim is to develop a volume textile through the interplay of construction and folding that can be used in various areas. The approach of the work focuses on two aspects: the systematic development of a textile archive and the practical application for a upholstery textile for sitting that does not require filling materials and offers comfort.
