Kambio is a concept for a portable tree radar for the fast, non-destructive investigation of the internal condition of trees. Existing methods are either invasive and provide only selective data or non-invasive, but time-consuming and error-prone. At the same time, the need for efficient solutions for the care of urban tree populations is increasing. The aim of the project is a precise, practical diagnosis that can be easily carried out by one person in their daily work routine. Kambio uses Ground-Penetrating Radar (GPR) in a compact, hand-held device. A laser line supports guidance along the trunk and enables reproducible measurements. The collected data is visualized and allows for a well-founded assessment of the tree’s condition. Kambio improves the basis for decision-making in tree care, enables the early detection of damage and supports long-term planning for the preservation of urban green structures through digital documentation.
