Description
[Im]Perfekt investigates how imperfection can be targeted and used in furniture design and industrial manufacturing processes. While standardized manufacturing processes enable perfect surfaces and repeatability, they simultaneously lead to deviations hardly being accepted anymore. In addition, the creation process often remains invisible. Deliberately used imperfection, on the other hand, opens up a transparent view of material, manufacturing technology, and the production process, while at the same time questioning the expectations placed on industrially manufactured objects.
The work is based on CNC milling, which comprises two steps: roughing (coarse milling) and finishing (perfecting). In this project, finishing is dispensed with. The rough surface of the roughing becomes the final appearance. This creates a process-typical imperfection that combines aesthetic qualities with practical advantages such as time and energy savings.
