Holobiont
Mikroalgen und mikrobielle Symbiose – Ein Konzept für resilientere Stadtökosysteme
Description
Holobiont explores the potential of microalgae as a circular bio-resource and focuses on the invisible yet fundamental interactions between microbes, roots, and plants in urban ecosystems. At the heart of the concept is an autonomous photobioreactor for location-independent cultivation and harvesting of microalgae at the point of use. Microalgae contain valuable nutrients and phytohormones that, as natural soil additives, promote plant health, enhance biodiversity, neutralise pollutants, and improve the regenerative capacity of urban ecosystems. The design concept demonstrates a forward-looking approach to integrating microalgae into biological processes within cities, making urban ecosystems more resilient to increasing environmental stresses such as heat, drought, and pollution. The object is made from durable mono-materials and designed so that all raw materials can be returned to their respective material cycles.
