Berta, Family & Friends
From Farm to Fabric - veggie Vlies
Description
Textile Design Objects With Character.
The sheep themselves served as inspiration for a series of textile objects. The wool from Berta, Family & Friends — the Shetland sheep flock — was sheared by hand and processed into textiles. Duri’s fleece stood out due to its natural colour gradients, both within the fibres and across the entire fleece. It was felted on one side — firm textile on one side, the original fleece structure on the other.
A full-surface dyeing highlights the natural gradient — vibrant blue flashes through the tips, inviting both tactile and visual exploration.
The close connection to the animal and the direct manufacturing process give the objects a special authenticity and foster appreciation — for the sheep, the material, and the product.
The conscious use of European wool — a material often overlooked — is both a design statement and an ecological one.
