Description

“threadbare“ is an investigation into the paradoxical relationship between the traces of use in our clothing and the value that society places on them. In the context of environmental and climate impact, I wonder why these traces are often devalued when the value of clothing is so relevant. Can we break away from conventional patterns of consumption and social judgement to establish a universally accepted aesthetic of ageing?

A phenomenon of textile ageing is explored through a collection of fabric samples, the “Archive of Threadiness”, and its units are isolated. Staged in large jacquard weaves, they are translated into an “aesthetics of ageing” that serves as a basis for profound discussions about our values and our approach to clothing. This work opens up a space to rediscover the aesthetic richness of our everyday use of textiles and to make it more sustainable.
