Description

The project examines how disused textile protective equipment can be transferred into new contexts of use in the sense of a circular economy. The aim was to develop strategies that extend the life cycle of technical textiles and reduce resource consumption. To this end, the application areas of firefighting, highway maintenance, and motorcycling were analyzed with regard to their materials, ecological impacts, and design potential. Based on these findings, various concepts for the reuse and repurposing of used protective clothing were developed. The selected concept, a firefighting backpack made from a decommissioned firefighter jacket, was developed as an example and evaluated with regard to its ecological potential. The project shows how creative reuse of existing materials can reduce waste, conserve resources, and create new product values.
