Effektivität von Entsorgungshinweisen auf Lebensmittelverpackungen
Entwicklung und quantitative Evaluation
Description
Since a significant portion of recycling potential is lost due to incorrect disposal in private households, an increasing number of food packages feature disposal instructions. This study quantitatively investigates whether such instructions actually have the potential to improve sorting behavior. Four instructions were designed for the packaging of a chocolate praline and tested in a study with 120 participants. The variations differed in terms of information presentation (pictograms and/or text) and whether they featured color highlighting or not. Two of the variations led to significantly more correct disposal than the baseline version without any instructions. The results provide initial evidence-based insights into the effectiveness and design of disposal instructions. Furthermore, preliminary recommendations for design elements can be derived, although these should be examined in more detail in subsequent studies.
