Description
‘Whenever we think we are producing memories, we are in fact engaged in forms of becoming.’ — Deleuze & Guattari
The experimental film project Edna’s Call explores transgenerational connectedness and the father-daughter relationship during their lifetime. The German-American Kathrin and her American father Daniel (a carpenter/dancer living in Germany since 1974) explore the eerie house of their deceased (grand)parents in the USA. Through keepsakes and shared experiences, the journey enables a deeper connection to the place, to one another, and to (grand)mother Edna (*1919), who aspired to become an actress in New York in 1944.
Three videos present interwoven layers: narratives complement one another, diverge at times, and reunite. Archival work is combined with artistic staging to experience family history, identity, and the reintegrating power of reconciliation.
