druMR is a VR learning prototype for self-taught drumming that combines access and motivation in music learning. Its unique selling point: Unlike conventional drum apps, where you often only react to stimuli, druMR teaches real music theory. Notes are directly tied to and visible in the spatial interface. Rhythm becomes tangible in space via markers, classical notation, and immersive feedback. A composition mode allows notes to be dragged into staves, making it easier to understand how notation actually works. Instead of gamification, druMR relies on an intuitive, spatial body logic: learning through movement, repetition, and a sense of space. Developed through structured user research and iterative prototyping (Unity, Pico Neo 3 Pro), evaluated with nine test subjects via UEQ – with top scores in attractiveness, stimulation, and novelty. In this way, druMR shows how immersive media can democratize learning and reduce the anxiety of starting a new instrument.
