Description

“die Schlange” is a photographic approach to the Schlangenbader Straße residential complex in Berlin. The focus is on the investigation of space as an atmospheric structure and the question of how a building shapes perception and coexistence. Apartments above a highway, inner courtyards, hallways, and a disused tunnel form a multi-layered space. The book makes the levels of this place tangible. Light, materiality, and repetition shape atmospheres that alternate between openness and retreat, proximity and distance. The photographs show everyday situations and traces of presence without directly portraying people. Instead, residents become tangible through their spaces and stories. Atmosphere emerges as something that lies between spaces and people and unfolds in the experience. “die Schlange” combines documentary photography with an artistic perspective and opens up a sensitive look at community, anonymity, and life in urban space.
