The project combines the delicate elegance of the Vietnamese ‘Áo Dài’ with the durable functionality of denim – a material originally developed for workwear. The starting point was the question of whether a garment could be created that unites apparent opposites such as tradition and modernity. The goal is a respectful handling of cultural symbols and their contemporary interpretation – contributing to an intercultural design understanding.
The concept of the collection focuses on the development of unisex-compatible garments that allow flexible adaptation to individual body shapes. Jeans-inspired details such as rivets, buttons, or adjustment straps enable variable sizing. A central feature of the ‘Áo Dài’ is the mandarin collar, which remains present in every design. Both themes of this work exemplify the fusion of Vietnamese and Western influences, which also shape one’s own cultural identity.
