Description
‘Mykra’ is a piece of furniture that combines design and sustainability! Through the innovative material approach of using mycelium as a panel material instead of particle board, a completely reimagined production and life cycle is created. Starting with resource-conserving material production and moving into new construction methods, this results in a thoughtfully designed life cycle of the furniture from creation to composting, offering a more environmentally friendly approach to the furniture industry.
The main components are mycelium panels, which will be produced in the future using regional residual streams. They last up to 30 years indoors, are biodegradable, and can be easily replaced or composted when worn out. Bamboo from garden waste, previously used for stabilization, will no longer be needed. Other components of the furniture include steel for screws and the base frame, which can be reused when repurposed. The brackets are currently made of aluminum, which will be replaced.
