Description
My master’s thesis, which was created in 2025 under the supervision of Professor Stefan Hauser, deals with the city highway in Saarbrücken and the conflicts it triggers. The starting point is a search for traces in the past, which is continued up to possible future scenarios. As part of the project, a 240-page book with photographs, texts, interviews and graphics was created, divided into the chapters “1963”, “Phänomen Stadtautobahn” [The City Highway Phenomenon] and “Veränderung” [Change].
First, the visions of the future of the 1960s in Saarland are illuminated. Subsequently, the chapter “Phänomen Stadtautobahn” analyzes the history and impact of the structure using archive material, data and information. In the chapter “Veränderung”, people from politics, science and society have their say, developing new perspectives for the city highway. The aim of the book is to provide food for thought for future engagement with the topic.
