Description

“Design by AI and Me” examines how artificial intelligence changes the design process in product design. The focus is on the aesthetic, creative, and structural effects of AI on design practice as well as the question of how the roles of designers, idea generation, and authorship are shifting. The work combines theoretical analyses, expert interviews, and own designs. The results are AI-generated pepper mills – a reference to the digital coloniality of AI – made of handmade porcelain as a connection between the digital and handcrafted world. Through modular upper and lower parts as well as different color versions, numerous combination possibilities arise, from which users curate their own pepper mill. It is precisely in this that the work with AI is reflected: design becomes a process of selecting, deciding, and curating.
