Corporeal literacy refers to the bodily dimension of perception and sense making and draws attention to how skills acquired through interaction with, for example, writing and print are inscribed into the body.

Interaction with technology changes what we do, what we know how to do, and what we are ready to do. They affect ways of perceiving, imagining, and thinking, and mediate the development of new cognitive perceptual abilities, including our understanding of what knowledge is and what it means to know.

Literacy, thus understood, denotes also culturally specific modes of information processing brought about by culturally specific practices of noting down, storing and transmitting information.

This work reflects on what the medium of the book does to bodies, and in turn, how it offers ways of engaging with knowledge that correspond to the potential of bodies for perception and understanding and invites a similar perspective on other media and technologies.
