In 2024, Surrealism celebrates its 100th anniversary. Nevertheless, to this day the movement is primarily associated with male artists. The visual identity for the exhibition “100 Years of Surrealism and What Was Forgotten” makes the often overlooked female artists visible and shows them as an active part of the movement.
Since the exhibition is conceived as a traveling exhibition, the visual identity works multilingually and flexibly. Depending on the location, the focus changes, which is also reflected in the logo system: different parts of the “100” are highlighted.
The focus is on the print publication. It combines a historical text by Maurice Nadeau with Whitney Chadwick’s research on female surrealist artists. The font “Oneira”, developed from their handwriting, gives them their own voice through marginal notes. The three-part book takes up surrealist techniques such as collage and Cadavre Exquis.
