My book questions the idealised view of zoos, which are often seen as educational institutions but conceal ethical issues and restrictions for animals. It particularly encourages children and young people to reflect on the ‘zoological idyll’. The aim is to create an interactive experience that imparts knowledge about the functions and problems of modern zoos while promoting individual thinking. In addition to stories and information, there are activity pages, self-tests and a QR code scavenger hunt that enables real-world learning. The concept integrates multimedia elements and various teaching methods to address different learning types. Illustrated content and quotes make complex topics understandable and encourage critical reflection. The QR codes provide practical relevance and foster empathy and engagement for animal welfare.
