Nächster Halt: Heterotopie
Eine künstlerische, fotografische Auseinandersetzung mit Transitlandschaften.
Description
Topic:
In 1967, Michel Foucault coined the concept of ‘heterotopia’ – spaces that differ from everyday life in their function and structure. They may, for example, be characterised by a different perception of time: cemeteries stand for eternity, nightclubs for transience. The aim was to capture these special spatial qualities through design and present them artistically.
Idea:
Underground stations in Hamburg, Hanover, Berlin and Vienna can be seen as heterotopias. Using analogue photography and book design, the aesthetics and dynamics of these everyday counter-spaces are documented. The core question was: ‘What does it take to capture abstract concepts through design aesthetics?’
Product:
The analogue photographs were compiled into four photo books, each depicting one of the cities mentioned. One person was portrayed per book to strengthen the personal connection. A specially made steel slipcase unites the books as a single unit.
