Reasonable Products
Design Must Lead People to Conscious Consumption Instead of Consciously Forcing Them to Consume
Description
“Reasonable Products” with regard to their production methods, the origin and choice of their materials, as well as their recycling possibilities can lead consumers to a change in awareness that motivates them in the long term to consume sensibly, to repair products and to separate waste. Instead of labelling plastic as the usual culprit, this project focused on the positive material properties, such as low energy consumption in processing and the extraordinary recycling properties of this versatile material. With the aim of spreading an appreciative view of plastic, a "reasonable" pavilion was developed as a prime example. Plastic is used where its material properties are needed. In places where there are no special requirements for attention to detail, the material properties of wood “suffice”. The focus on efficient use of materials results in the impressive arch construction.
