Deformation under Pressure
Bubble lamp
Description
Inspired by the phenomenon of soft materials deforming after being pressed, the project explores tension and deformation and combines them with the function of the product. The lamps are made of recyclable TPU material. The inflated lamp body is clamped by 4 aluminium rings. At each point where the ring is clamped, the pressure creates a joint, similar to the height-adjustable joint of a traditional table lamp on its stem. The whole structure is pulled by thin stainless steel cables, the height of the lamp can be freely adjusted by simply pulling the lamp manually without any traditional mechanical structure. The stainless steel cable is also used to power the COB light source. The cables do not cause any harm to the human body due to the low voltage (12V). The air in the lamp can be released so that it can be folded very small for easy storage and transport. Through this project I am exploring another possibility of lamps in terms of material, structure and form.
