Description
UPPA is concerned with finding alternatives for the conventionally used materials in sneaker uppers.
Sneakers unite many combinations of materials and processing techniques that makes it difficult to repair and recycle them. Petroleum-based vegan leather alternatives are declared sustainable in the industry, while mono-material sneakers allow for recycling that exponentially increases dependence on plastic....
Inspired by student works and due to the Corona pandemic with its attendant limitations, the focus of the project was on experimenting with materials and creating own materials.
Over 130 experiments with bio-plastic recipes have resulted in materials with a wide variety of properties that can be used as compostable alternatives to leathers/synthetics, reinforcements, and foams.
