Description
To Brick or Not To Brick examines how design can be democratized and made accessible to everyone. At the center is a modular furniture system that enables users to design, adapt, and further develop furniture themselves. The basis is a specially developed connection system inspired by LEGO Technic. Four pins ensure stable yet flexible connections of so-called Bricks. The system is complemented by two tools that enable assembly and disassembly. A three-dimensional grid ensures the compatibility of all furniture modules. In this way, different pieces of furniture can be combined and expanded with one another. Furniture can be designed intuitively via a web-based configurator. Designs are automatically translated into 3D data, saved, and shared with others. To Brick or Not To Brick sees itself as an open platform for participatory design and combines digital tools with analog production.
