Description

When walking in Berlin, you often see discarded furniture, mostly cheap, mass-produced pieces. It is no surprise, then, that 10 million tons of furniture end up in landfills in the EU every year. My project explores circularity by transforming wood waste into furniture, repurposing discarded materials instead of relying on new resources. Each stool reflects the diversity of wood found in dumpsters while following pre-designed templates. The result is furniture that sits between mass production and unique pieces, using a standardised system that adapts to irregular materials. I used wedge pins that rely on pressure, making disassembly and repair easy without screws or glue. If a part breaks, it can be replaced using digitally recorded templates. I used the Shaper Tool (hand-held CNC), guided by a Grasshopper script I created, to cut the joints in the irregular wood pieces. This tool also reduced the need for additional workshop machinery, simplifying the process.
