Description

Soft Bodies is a whimsical, customisable seating system comprised of three parts, each with its own individual character and function intended for the home, the office and the home-office.

What is the Topic?

After observing the stagnation of the upholstered furniture industry, our increasingly nomadic lifestyles and the throw-away culture rife in the homeware sector, I decided there was a need for more meaningful soft furnishings that invite us to form an attachment towards them, are less unwieldy and which are more mobile. Soft Bodies' intent is to reduce the impact of throw-away culture by providing a long-lasting solution to our changing environments.

Why does it look like this?

Anthropomorphism was used in order to invite the user to form a stronger bond with the chair. The legs are reminiscent of a deer's hind leg, mainly due to the animalistic aesthetic and in part because I wanted the leg to protrude outwards from the metal frame.

What is special?

The discerning features of Soft Bodies are its modularity and its whimsical appearance.

What is new?

Soft Bodies blurs the lines between the office, the home office and the home. Its intention is to accompany us in our modern lifestyles and to allow greater flexibility in how and where we work and relax.
