Description

How well prepared are we as a population for crises and catastrophes? What to do if the power suddenly goes out, an evacuation is necessary, or a storm threatens? And what if fears and worries get the upper hand? It was not just the power outage in Berlin in January 2026 that showed: We are not prepared, especially not analogously. The work first examined risk communication media in Germany and other European countries.

The design concept subsequently developed takes into account findings from color and perceptual psychology as well as stress research. The result is a tear- and waterproof card bundle with the aim of raising awareness for hazardous situations and thus helping the population achieve greater capacity to act. The cards show clearly, comprehensibly, and with the help of illustrations what to do in various emergencies. With the carabiner, they hang directly on the emergency backpack — or are within reach in a jacket pocket.
