Description
SHELTER KIT – Sleeping cabin as a retreat for residents of emergency shelters
A lack of privacy, permanent noise pollution, and a lack of retreat options characterize the everyday life of many people in refugee and emergency shelters. Especially in large collective accommodations, cramped living conditions and open room structures make recovery, sleep, and personal moments of retreat difficult.
The bachelor thesis examines the possibilities of ready-made design in a social context. The result is the “Shelter Kit” – a modular sleeping and retreat system made of standardized, cost-effective materials.
Wooden panels, HT pipes, and flame-retardant textile elements are combined to form a sleeping cabin that creates privacy and reduces light and noise influences. The project shows how the recombination of existing components with simple means can make concrete improvements within existing emergency shelters possible.
