Description

SALVINIA is a system for removing oil spills from bodies of water. It is based on a bionic textile developed by Dr.-Ing. Leonie Beek based on the model of the water fern Salvinia molesta. The textile separates oil from water purely physically and requires neither chemical aids nor external energy.

Within the scope of the project, this scientific development was transferred into concrete products for oil spill response for the first time. The result is three coordinated systems: an oil boom, a mobile skimmer, and a stationary skimmer. They enable the preventive and reactive removal of oil in ports, inland waters, and coastal waters.

All systems are reusable, repairable, and designed for a long service life. The absorbed oil is collected and can be recovered. Due to the power-free operation, the renunciation of consumables, and the multiple usability, resources are conserved and waste is reduced.
